The Operating Room Technician will report to the Director of Perioperative Services and work under the supervision of Perioperative Services Clinical Unit Supervisor (CUS). He/she will assist the surgical team in providing high quality health care to the patients requiring surgical intervention. He/she will apply knowledge of aseptic technique, principles of sterilization and understanding of the purpose and use of surgical instruments. This position requires close concentration and a high degree of accuracy and organization to prepare, set up and assist on various surgical procedures. Operating Room Technician is responsible as an individual and as part of the professional team to perform to the highest standards in order to provide the optimal results in perioperative patient care. This position requires full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the Mission of Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Healthcare. It is expected that the employee will demonstrate behavior consistent with the Core Values. The employee must support Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Healthcare’s strategic plan and the goals and direction of the quality and performance improvement process activities.
High School Diploma required, BLS certification required.
Certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Minimum of at least 18 months of experience in an acute care perioperative services hospital setting. Internal candidates in good standing with approved certification may be considered without the minimum experience requirement.
Knowledge of core curriculum of Surgical Technologist education & training, current infection control practices, sharp-related injury prevention, instruments and sterilization procedures.
