Job summary

Community Health Systems seeks a Surgical Technician to support the perioperative team in Las Cruces, NM. You will prepare sterile fields, pass instruments, and help maintain instrument counts to ensure patient safety during procedures.

Work with the surgeon and circulator, adhering to infection prevention standards and facility policies to deliver high-quality patient care in the operating room.

Qualifications

• Technical School graduate of Surgical Technology or Practical Nursing program required.
• Associate Degree in Surgical Technology or Applied Sciences required.
• 0-2 years of operating room surgical technician experience required.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the operating room for surgical cases, ensuring equipment, instruments and supplies are organized and available.
• Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies accurately and efficiently.
• Handle surgical instruments according to instructions for use; ensure proper sterilization, inspection, and assembly.
• Perform counts with the circulating nurse to ensure patient safety, including sponge, needle, and instrument counts.
• Assist in patient positioning, draping, and transfer methods to ensure safety and comfort during procedures.
• Maintain physician preference cards to ensure accurate supplies for procedures.
• Clean, reprocess, and sterilize instruments following established protocols.
• Restock supplies and ensure ORs are ready for subsequent cases.
