Job summary

United Health Services (UHS) is seeking an OR Surgical Technologist to support our surgical team in the NY Southern Tier. Responsibilities include sterile technique, instrument handling, and assisting surgeons across cases while ensuring patient safety in a fast-paced operating room.

Eligible candidates may have an LPN license or surgical tech credentials, with CPR within 3 months of hire and a possible sign-on incentive. Opportunities at multiple UHS locations in Johnson City and Binghamton.

Qualifications

• Meets NYS Surgical Technologist Certification Law.
• Completed a Surgical Technologist program (Armed Forces or civilian).
• Graduated from a nationally accredited Surgical Technologist program.
• Active NY state LPN license (if applicable).
• CPR certification within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Follows infection control policies and sterile technique.
• Assists in gowning, gloving, draping and passing instruments.
• Anticipates surgeon’s instrument, suture, and equipment needs.
• Maintains organized operative field and accurate counts.
• Assists in suturing, retracting, suctioning under direction.
• Expedites efficient OR turnover between cases.
• Handles specimens per policy.
• Rotating call duty.

Position OverviewUnited Health Services (UHS) is actively seeking a skilled and dedicated OR Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic surgical team. In this vital role, you will play a crucial part in delivering safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care within our fast-paced operating room environment.As an OR Surgical Technologist, you will be responsible for preparing operating rooms, meticulously ensuring all surgical instruments are sterile and readily available, and providing essential assistance to surgeons and nurses throughout various procedures. Your contributions directly support optimal patient outcomes and the smooth operation of the surgical suite.We are pleased to confirm that Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs) with relevant experience are also encouraged to apply for this position.Work Locations:UHS Wilson Medical Center, Johnson City, NY UHS Binghamton General Hospital, Binghamton, NYThere is more than one location associated with this position. This is either because there are multiple openings at different sites, or the successful candidate will be required to float across multiple UHS facilities. Talk with your recruiter to learn more.Job Responsibilities:Follows Infection Control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique.Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively.Assists the surgeon when needed gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon’s need for instruments, sutures, and equipment.Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place.Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count.Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems.
