Job summary

Southern Illinois Healthcare (SIH) seeks a Phlebotomy Technician to support operating room preparation, patient positioning, and specimen handling. This role requires a high school diploma and OR tech training, with NBSTSA/NCCT certification and BLS.

Responsibilities include assisting in table assembly, sterile setup, skin prep, gowning, gloving, instrument counts, specimen care, and efficient OR turnover. SIH emphasizes professional growth in a tobacco-free environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Graduate of OR technician program, accredited through ARC/STSA or on the job training; military experience as technician or LPN; dental assistant; ophthalmologist technician; medical assistant.
• Certified Surgical Technologist exam NBSTSA or NCCT.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate.

Responsibilities

• Assists in transportation and positioning of patients.
• Assists in assembling and dismantling of tables and instruments before and after procedure.
• Prepares patient and room for the planned surgical procedures.
• Opens sterile supplies and sets up for procedures.
• Completes skin preparation and draping.
• Assist Surgeon with gowning and gloving.
• Assist surgeon by passing instruments and suture.
• Maintains correct count of instruments, sutures, and sponges.
• Applies dressings and bandages as needed.
• Assists in identifying, collecting, and caring for specimens.
• Decontaminates instruments and supplies according to procedures.
• Aids in efficient turnover of the operating room for next cases.
• Monitors and restocks supplies.
