Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine is hiring for Lab Animal Care Technician I, II, III.

The role oversees the daily care and welfare of laboratory animals across multiple facilities, monitors health, administers medications, maintains clean housing, and assists with veterinary procedures.

Formación

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• 2 years of experience in animal care and husbandry preferred for Level II.
• 4 years of experience in animal care and husbandry preferred for Level III.
• Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, or related program considered.

Responsabilidades

• Oversee daily care and welfare of laboratory animals across multiple facilities.
• Monitor animal health and administer medications as directed by veterinary staff.
• Maintain clean, well-ventilated housing and assist with veterinary procedures.
• Record keeping of animal health, treatments, and daily care activities.
• Follow biosecurity and chemical safety requirements, including PPE usage and footbaths.
• Perform sanitation duties: clean enclosures, cages, and equipment.
• Support areas duties: laundry, cleaning, equipment sterilization, and loading/unloading supplies.

Job Description

Overview

The College of Veterinary Medicine is hiring for a Lab AnimalCare Technician I, II, III. This individual oversees the daily care and welfare of variouslaboratory animal species across multiple facilities. Ensures theirhealth and well-being by monitoring their condition, administeringmedications, maintaining clean housing, and assisting with veterinary procedures. Adherence to protocols andeffective communication with staff and veterinarians are crucial for success in this role.

Responsibilities

• Animal Feeding and Hydration : Ensures all animals areprovided with appropriate food and fresh water according to theirdietary needs.
• Health Monitoring : Regularly observes animals for signsof illness, injury, or distress and reports any concerns to theveterinary staff.
• Record Keeping: Maintains accurate records of animalhealth, treatments, and daily care activities.
• Biosecurity : Follows all biosecurity and chemicalsafety requirements for animal care.
• Sanitation : Cleans and disinfects animal enclosures,cages, and equipment to maintain a hygienic environment. This mayinclude upkeep and maintenance of animal housing areas throughsweeping, mopping, and sanitization of walls, floors, tables, andequipment.
• Compliance : Ensures adherence to all regulatoryguidelines and protocols related to animal care, laboratoryprocedures, and biosecurity protocols to include wearing correctpersonal protective equipment (PPE), stocking of PPE, andmaintaining footbaths.
• Support Areas : Performs various duties in animalsupport areas, including laundry, cleaning and sterilizingequipment, and loading and unloading supply racks.

Qualifications

Level I:

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Level II:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 2 years of experience in animal care and husbandrypractices.

Or

• Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Animal Science,Veterinary Technology, or related program.

Level III:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 4 years of experience in animal care and husbandrypractices.

Or

• Associate's degree or Vocational Certificate in Animal Science,Veterinary Technology, or related program
• 2 years of experience in animal care and husbandrypractices.

Or

• Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Technology, orrelated program.

License and Certifications

• Valid in state driver's license upon hire required.

Desired Qualifications:

• Lab animal experience is desired.
