Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center seeks a Surgical Technologist to support the Endoscopy team in the operating room. You will prepare ORs, assist with patient transport, verify sites, and maintain sterile technique under supervision.

You will review schedules, gather equipment as per surgeon cards, scrub in, pass instruments, and help with counts and dressings. Endo/GI experience is preferred; CST certification is optional in Iowa.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent experience.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• No prior experience required.
• Previous endo/GI experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team in Endoscopy by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures under the supervision of the circulating nurse.
• Verify correct surgical site, assist with patient transport as needed, and prepare the pre-operative site.
• Review OR schedules, note changes to procedures, and gather required equipment, instruments, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards.
• Perform surgical scrub, don sterile gown and gloves, and participate in opening and maintaining the sterile field.
• Instrument surgical cases, pass instruments to surgeons, and anticipate needs to support uninterrupted procedures.
• Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in accordance with policy.
• Assist with prepping and draping patients and gowning and gloving surgical team members.
• Prepare sterile dressings and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions, and more.

What You Will Do:

• Review OR schedules, note changes to procedures, and gather required equipment, instruments, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards

• Instrument surgical cases, pass instruments to surgeons, and anticipate needs to support uninterrupted procedures

• Prepare sterile dressings and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions, and more.

Schedule:

• Full-time; 40 hours per week
• Shift: Days (6:30am - 3:00pm)
• On call every 4th weekend

Minimum Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology; completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program; graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience; or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• No prior experience required.
• Previous endo/GI experience preferred.
