MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA seeks an Endoscopy Surgical Tech to support the surgical team by preparing operating rooms and assisting with procedures under the circulating nurse supervision.

Responsibilities include verifying surgical sites, passing instruments, scrubbing, gowning, and maintaining sterile fields, with focus on patient safety and efficiency.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent.
• Completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program.
• Graduate of an LPN program with surgical experience, or equivalent competency.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.

• Assist the surgical team in Endoscopy by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures.
• Verify correct surgical site and assist with patient transport.
• Review OR schedules and gather equipment per surgeon preference cards.
• Perform surgical scrub, don sterile gown and gloves, maintain sterile field.
• Instrument surgical cases and pass instruments to surgeons.
• Perform counts of sponge, sharps, and instruments per policy.
• Assist with prepping and draping patients and gowning/gloving the team.
• Prepare sterile dressings and ensure equipment functions properly.

Employment Type: Full time Shift: Day Shift Description: What You Will Do: Assist the surgical team in Endoscopy by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures under the supervision of the circulating nurse Verify correct surgical site, assist with patient transport as needed, and prepare the pre‑operative site Review OR schedules, note changes to procedures, and gather required equipment, instruments, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards Perform surgical scrub, don sterile gown and gloves, and participate in opening and maintaining the sterile field Instrument surgical cases, pass instruments to surgeons, and anticipate needs to support uninterrupted procedures Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in accordance with policy Assist with prepping and draping patients and gowning and gloving surgical team members Prepare sterile dressings and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions, and more.

Schedule: Full-time; 40 hours per week Shift: Days (6:30am - 3:00pm) On call every 4th weekend.

Minimum Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology
• completion of surgical tech apprenticeship or military program
• graduate of an LPN program with Surgical experience
• or equivalent experience to demonstrate competency.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
• LPN license required if graduate of LPN program.
• No prior experience required.
• Previous endo/GI experience preferred.
