Job Summary
The Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN) provides comprehensive perioperative nursing care including preoperative assessment, intraoperative support, and postoperative evaluation. This role involves preparing patients for surgery, assisting with surgical procedures, ensuring sterile technique, and documenting nursing care. The OR RN collaborates closely with surgical teams to ensure patient safety and optimal outcomes in a surgery center environment.
Responsibilities
- Perform preoperative patient assessments and formulate nursing care plans.
- Implement operative care plans and evaluate patient responses postoperatively.
- Assist in surgical case setup by assembling equipment and supplies using sterile technique.
- Open sterile packs, instruments, and supplies according to sterile procedures.
- Prepare patients for surgery including positioning, site preparation, and procedure/site confirmation.
- Assist in moving patients to and from the operating table safely.
- Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments and document care accurately on legal records.
- Assist in operating room cleanup, including proper disposal of used supplies and sharps.
Required Skills & Certifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Minimum of one (1) year surgical nursing experience.
- Bachelor's degree in Nursing or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and perioperative nursing standards.
- Strong documentation and patient assessment skills.
Preferred Skills & Certifications
- Experience in a surgery center or community hospital setting.
- Advanced perioperative nursing certifications.
Special Considerations
- Work environment includes operating room setting requiring strict adherence to sterile technique.
- Must be able to assist with physical patient transfers and positioning.
- Compliance with surgical safety protocols and documentation standards is mandatory.
Scheduling
- Full-time schedule, Monday through Friday.
- Day shift hours typical of surgery center operations.
