Job summary

HonorHealth is seeking a PRN RN for the Network Float Pool across multiple campuses in the Phoenix, AZ area. The role requires a minimum of 10 months of med-surg or acute care experience, with a focus on stroke care and patient education. ADN or Diploma holders must pursue BSN within 60 months of hire.

The RN will coordinate with the multidisciplinary team, administer medications, manage IVs, and participate in competency development within a Shared Governance model.

PRN, Days Network Float Pool - Float to 3+ Campuses! Flexible/Open Scheduling! Min 2 years' experience in OR setting required.

Responsibilities

The RN’s practice is guided by the ANA Standard for Professional Nurse and Code of Ethics. The RN has knowledge of professional nursing principles, practices, concepts, and procedures as applied to the care of the patient population served. The RN records patients’ medical history and symptoms, helps perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operates medical equipment, administers treatment and medications, and helps with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. The RN establishes a care plan or contributes to an existing plan, including activities such as administering medication, starting, maintaining, and discontinuing intravenous (IV) lines for fluid, medication, blood, and blood products, administering therapies and treatments, observing the patient, recording observations, and consulting with physicians and other healthcare clinicians.

The RN teaches patients and their families how to manage illnesses or injuries, explain post-treatment and home care needs, diet, nutrition, exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and therapy. The RN provides direction to licensed practical nurses and nursing aides regarding patient care and delegates when appropriate.

The RN supports efforts to advance clinical knowledge and skills. The RN precepts new hire staff and students, assists staff and students to complete competency tasks, continues to enhance knowledge in nursing management and patient care, and promotes a healthy work environment. Nursing practices are theory-based, evidence-based, utilizing a Shared Governance model.

All RN staff with direct responsibility for the care of stroke patients must have knowledge of stroke symptoms and warning signs, protocols, pathways, NIHSS, Stroke Alert activation and protocol, stroke quality indicators, patient education materials, community resources, educational requirements, and resources.

Essential Functions
  • Collecting health data systematically, prioritizing as determined by patient condition or needs, involving family.
  • Analyzing assessment data to determine diagnoses and develop, implement, evaluate, and revise patient plans of care that are family-centered, developmentally appropriate, and culturally relevant.
  • Identifying expected outcomes individualized to the patient’s health problems.
  • Implementing interventions, initiating treatments, medications, emergency and resuscitative measures based on standing orders, policies, and procedures.
  • Providing nursing care to meet physical, emotional, spiritual, and social-cultural needs using a family-centered approach.
  • Evaluating patient progress toward outcomes, documenting observations, interventions, therapeutic measures, and monitoring data.
  • Evaluating quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, maintaining current knowledge in nursing practice, and evaluating the effectiveness of nursing practice.
  • Integrating ethical principles into all aspects of practice and enhancing knowledge of culture and diversity needs.
  • Collaborating with peers and other health care providers for professional development, positive role-modeling, and participation in preceptor/mentor programs.
  • Collaborating with multidisciplinary team in assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patient care delivery.
  • Developing and evaluating evidence-based standards of care, identifying changes, adopting and adapting nursing practice, and using research to improve nursing practice and patient outcomes.
  • Considering safety, effectiveness, and cost in planning and delivering patient care.
Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) - Preferred
  • Diploma and ADN hires must complete BSN within 60 months of hire date or have 10 years of RN experience (direct or indirect). - Required
  • Associate’s Degree or Diploma in Nursing. All staff who have direct responsibility for the care of stroke patients refer to addendum for specific education requirements prior to start. - Required
  • Other Graduate from an accredited NLN/CCNE institution. - Required
Experience

>10 months med-surg or acute specialty setting - Required

1 year RN experience for all Float Positions - Required

Licenses and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification and unit-specific certification as required by specialty area. - Required
  • Registered Nurse (RN) State and/or Compact State licensure upon hire. - Required
  • National certification for unit specific patient population. - Preferred
