Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an experienced OR Registered Nurse (RN) on a PRN basis for the Pediatric Operating Room at the McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple, TX. The role focuses on coordinating perioperative patient care, with emphasis on safety, family-centered care, and collaboration within a five‑room pediatric OR suite.

Required are an accredited nursing degree, active RN license, prior OR experience, and BLS.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
• Previous operating room experience.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team‑oriented environment.
• Reliable availability to meet PRN scheduling needs.
• BLS certification within 30 days of hire.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and pediatric care processes.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and develop individualized perioperative care plans.
• Coordinate patient care using the nursing model and promote safe passage.
• Delegate interventions based on Act and competencies and prior to follow‑up.
• Conduct clinical assessments, evaluate care plans, and ensure quality improvement.
• Provide caring practices, manage pain, and maintain a safe environment.
• Educate patients and families and collaborate with colleagues and community.

We are seeking an experienced OR Registered Nurse (RN) – PRN to support our Pediatric Operating Room, providing high-quality perioperative care in a collaborative, family‑centered environment.

Department Overview

The Pediatric Operating Room consists of five operating rooms and supports a broad range of surgical specialties, excluding cardiac, vascular, and transplant procedures. Nurses play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate care throughout the surgical experience.

Responsibilities

Job Summary: The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing model to coordinate patient care. The RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements individualized care plans, evaluates responses, and promotes safe passage for patients using knowledge of patient needs. The RN delegates interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies.

• Use clinical judgment to conduct accurate assessments, identify and prioritize patient and family needs, and evaluate nursing care plans.
• Conduct clinical inquiry, evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
• Provide caring practices by creating an attentive, safe environment and managing pain to promote relief and healing.
• Respond to diversity by incorporating culture, beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, status, age, and values into a care plan.
• Advocate for patients and families, preserve confidentiality, autonomy, dignity, and rights.
• Facilitate learning for patients, families, and staff through education throughout care.
• Partner with colleagues and community, delegating tasks appropriately and ensuring timely follow‑up.
• Use systems thinking to plan and deliver patient care with safety, effectiveness, and efficiency.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.

• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
