Job summary

Baylor Scott & White Health is seeking an experienced OR Registered Nurse (RN) for the Pediatric Operating Room at McLane Children’s Medical Center in Temple, TX. This PRN role supports a busy pediatric OR with a focus on safe perioperative care in a family-centered environment.

The RN will assess patients, plan care, and collaborate with a multidisciplinary team. Requirements include RN license, OR experience, BLS, and strong communication. PRN scheduling with weekend/holiday coverage as needed.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Previous operating room experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Reliable availability to meet PRN scheduling needs.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and pediatric care processes.

Responsibilities

  • Use clinical judgment to conduct accurate assessments, identify and prioritize patient and family needs, and evaluate nursing care plans.
  • Conduct clinical inquiry, evaluate quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
  • Provide caring practices by creating an attentive, safe environment and managing pain to promote relief and healing.
  • Respond to diversity by incorporating culture, beliefs, gender, race, ethnicity, lifestyle, status, age, and values into a care plan.

Department Overview

The Pediatric Operating Room consists of five operating rooms and supports a broad range of surgical specialties, excluding cardiac, vascular, and transplant procedures. Nurses play a vital role in ensuring safe, efficient, and compassionate care throughout the surgical experience.

Responsibilities

Job Summary: The Operating Room (OR) Registered Nurse (RN) is a licensed professional who uses the BSWH nursing model to coordinate patient care. The RN assesses patients, identifies nursing diagnoses, develops and implements individualized care plans, evaluates responses, and promotes safe passage for patients using knowledge of patient needs. The RN delegates interventions based on the Texas Nursing Practice Act, patient condition, and employee competencies.
