Job summary

Yale New Haven Health is seeking a Registered Nurse for the perioperative role to provide comprehensive patient care on the surgical unit under supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.

The RN assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care, while supervising non-RN staff and serving as a charge nurse. Responsibilities include education, safety, and collaboration across the healthcare team. CT license and BLS required.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
• Proficient with electronic patient records and computer software.
• Ability to use internet for literature searches related to patient care.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient status continuously across the continuum of care.
• Develop and document a plan of care with patient, family and healthcare team.
• Coordinate and implement the plan of care with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate care effectiveness and readiness for discharge; revise as needed.
• Educate patient and family; document outcomes.
• Serve as preceptor to new staff and as charge nurse.
• Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork and development.
• Ensure smooth operation of the department and assist with procedures.
• Explain procedures to patients at an appropriate level of understanding.
• Prevent patient injury by addressing positioning, hazards, and infection control.
• Prepare materials and organize for procedures; maintain equipment.
• Operate OR equipment safely and ensure readiness.
• Document OR records and communicate patient status to the team.

• 12. Prepares And Organizes Materials Recognizing Special Needs Of Patient (Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult And Geriatric), Procedure And/Or Surgeon.
• 13. Checks And Maintains Specialty And Department Equipment And Supplies As Assigned.
• 14. Safely Operates All Equipment According To Manufacturer Specifications. Insures All Necessary Instrumentation And Equipment Are In Working Order. Follows Through With Repair/Replacement As Needed.
• 15. Implements Case Breakdown Procedure Insuring Minimal Downtime Between Cases.
• 16. Provides Complete And Accurate O.R. Records.
• 17. Communicates/Documents Patient Status And Care Needs To Appropriate Team Members.
• 18. Performs Individualized Nursing Assessment Of Physiologic And Psychosocial Status And Documents Same. Re-Assesses Throughout Surgical Case.
• 19. Adheres To O.R. Dress Code.
• 20. Assist with sterile table and room preparation, and clean-up following the procedure. Take responsibility of contaminated materials, and dispose of sharps and needles in correct containers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate Of An Accredited School Of Nursing; Bsn Preferred. Proficient In Use Of Computer Software To Include Electronic Patient Records. Must Have Ability To Use Internet For Literature Searches Regarding Care For Patients.

Experience

Previous Peri-Operative Course Curriculum And /Or Minimum 1 Year Of Recent Or Experience Preferred.

Licensure

Valid State Of Connecticut Registered Nurse License. BLS Required.

Special Skills

Certification In Peri-Operative Nursing Preferred (Cnor). Bls Required.
