Job summary

Yale New Haven Health Services Corp. is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for perioperative care on a nursing unit. The RN assesses patients, plans and implements care, and supervises non‑RN staff under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.

The role requires CT RN licensure, BLS, and preferably a BSN with perioperative certification (CNOR). Prior perioperative experience is valued and flexibility to work across units may be needed.

Qualifications

• Graduate of accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
• Valid Connecticut RN license; BLS required.
• Experience in perioperative care; 1 year preferred.
• Proficient with electronic patient records and literature searches.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient's physical and psychosocial condition continuously.
• Develop and document a plan of care with patient and family.
• Coordinate and implement the care plan with the team.
• Supervise non-RN personnel and act as charge nurse when needed.
• Provide education and document outcomes for patients and families.
• Maintain OR equipment, supplies, and sterile technique.
• Ensure safe patient handling and adherence to unit policies.

Works Under The Supervision Of The Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. • 10.Explains Procedure/Environment To Patient As Appropriate, As Consistent With Their Level Of Comprehension.
• 11.Implements Actions To Prevent Patient (Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult And Geriatric) Injury From: Positioning, extraneous objects, chemical/physical/electrical hazards, medications, temperature, and infection.
• 12.Prepares And Organizes Materials Recognizing Special Needs Of Patient (Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult And Geriatric), Procedure And/Or Surgeon.
• 13.Checks And Maintains Specialty And Department Equipment And Supplies As Assigned.
• 14.Safely Operates All Equipment According To Manufacturer Specifications. Insures All Necessary Instrumentation And Equipment Are In Working Order. Follows Through With Repair/Replacement As Needed.
• 15.Implements Case Breakdown Procedure Insuring Minimal Downtime Between Cases.
• 16.Provides Complete And Accurate O.R. Records.
• 17.Communicates/Documents Patient Status And Care Needs To Appropriate Team Members.
• 18.Performs Individualized Nursing Assessment Of Physiologic And Psychosocial Status And Documents Same. Re-Assesses Throughout Surgical Case.
• 19.Adheres To O.R. Dress Code.
• 20.Assist with sterile table and room preparation, and clean-up following the procedure. Take responsibility of contaminated materials, and dispose of sharps and needles in correct containers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate Of An Accredited School Of Nursing; Bsn Preferred. Proficient In Use Of Computer Software To Include Electronic Patient Records. Must Have Ability To Use Internet For Literature Searches Regarding Care For Patients.

EXPERIENCE

Previous Peri-Operative Course Curriculum And /Or Minimum 1 Year Of Recent Or Experience Preferred.

LICENSURE

Valid State Of Connecticut Registered Nurse License. BLS Required.

SPECIAL SKILLS
