Job summary

Yale NewHaven Health is seeking an experienced Registered Nurse for the perioperative unit in Connecticut. The role involves assessing patients, planning and coordinating care, and supervising OR activities to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.

Requirements include a CT RN license, BLS certification, BSN preferred, and proficiency with electronic health records. Prior peri-operative care experience is preferred, with opportunities to precept new staff and contribute to department leadership.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited nursing program with BSN preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assess patient condition throughout the continuum of care.
• Develop and document a Plan of Care with patient and family involvement.
• Coordinate and implement the Plan of Care with the healthcare team.
• Evaluate outcomes and revise the plan as needed.
• Serve as Preceptor to new staff and as Charge Nurse when required.
• Ensure smooth operation of the department and accurate OR records.

Works Under The Supervision Of The Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator. The Registered Nurse (Rn) Assesses, Plans, Implements, Evaluates And Supervises Individual Patient Care On A Nursing Unit/Department According To Unit Policies And Procedures. • 1.Assesses The Patient's Physical And Psychosocial Condition On An Ongoing Basis Throughout The Continuum Of Care.

• 10.Explains Procedure/Environment To Patient As Appropriate, As Consistent With Their Level Of Comprehension.
• 11.Implements Actions To Prevent Patient (Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult And Geriatric) Injury From: Positioning, extraneous objects, chemical/physical/electrical hazards, medications, temperature, and infection.
• 12.Prepares And Organizes Materials Recognizing Special Needs Of Patient (Neonate, Pediatric, Adolescent, Adult And Geriatric), Procedure And/Or Surgeon.
• 13.Checks And Maintains Specialty And Department Equipment And Supplies As Assigned.
• 14.Safely Operates All Equipment According To Manufacturer Specifications. Insures All Necessary Instrumentation And Equipment Are In Working Order. Follows Through With Repair/Replacement As Needed.
• 15.Implements Case Breakdown Procedure Insuring Minimal Downtime Between Cases.
• 16.Provides Complete And Accurate O.R. Records.
• 17.Communicates/Documents Patient Status And Care Needs To Appropriate Team Members.
• 18.Performs Individualized Nursing Assessment Of Physiologic And Psychosocial Status And Documents Same. Re-Assesses Throughout Surgical Case.
• 19.Adheres To O.R. Dress Code.
• 20.Assist with sterile table and room preparation, and clean-up following the procedure. Take responsibility of contaminated materials, and dispose of sharps and needles in correct containers.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Graduate Of An Accredited School Of Nursing; Bsn Preferred. Proficient In Use Of Computer Software To Include Electronic Patient Records. Must Have Ability To Use Internet For Literature Searches Regarding Care For Patients.

EXPERIENCE

Previous Peri-Operative Course Curriculum And /Or Minimum 1 Year Of Recent Or Experience Preferred.

LICENSURE

Valid State Of Connecticut Registered Nurse License. BLS Required.
