Job summary

Springfield Regional Outpatient Surgery Center is seeking an Operating Room RN to provide direct patient care and act as a patient advocate in the OR. You will support surgeons and anesthesia staff, ensure patient safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the perioperative process.

Hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday with no nights, weekends, holidays, or on-call. Required: active RN license, current BLS and ACLS, and an associate degree or higher in nursing; perioperative experience is

Responsibilities

• Serve as circulating nurse, supporting patients, surgeons, and anesthesia staff during procedures.
• Prepare and maintain a safe, sterile, and efficient operating environment.
• Assess patient needs, provide reassurance, and involve families in care decisions when appropriate.
• Collaborate with the surgical team and communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and colleagues.
• Support patient safety, risk management, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in staff education, orientation, and professional development.
• Organize and manage supplies, equipment, and staff for effective case management.

Role Summary:

The Operating Room RN provides direct patient care and serves as a patient advocate in the operating room. This role supports surgeons and anesthesia providers, ensuring patient safety, comfort, and dignity throughout the perioperative process.

What You’ll Do:

• Serve as circulating nurse, supporting patients, surgeons, and anesthesia staff during procedures

• Accurately assess patient needs, provide reassurance, and involve families in care decisions when appropriate

What You’ll Bring:

• Active RN license
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Associate’s degree or higher in nursing
• Perioperative nursing experience preferred
• Strong teamwork, communication, and patient-advocacy skills

Physical & Work Environment Requirements:

• Frequent standing, walking, and lifting
• Occasional stooping, kneeling, or climbing
• Regular interaction with patients of all ages in a fast-paced surgical environment
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs (occasionally up to 100 lbs) and meet physical demands of the role
