Job summary

North Carolina Specialty Hospital (NCSH) in Durham is seeking an OR Registered Nurse to deliver perioperative care for pediatric to geriatric patients. You will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, and staff to implement safe, evidence-based plans of care and maintain patient safety throughout the operative process.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing; Associate's degree required; BSN preferred.
• Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in NC or compact multi-state license.
• BLS certification from AHA or ARC required on hire.
• ACLS & PALS preferred; must obtain within 6 months if not active.
• CNOR certification strongly preferred.
• Familiar with instruments and equipment used in perioperative nursing.
• Ability to demonstrate manual dexterity in handling instruments.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized nursing care to the surgical patient and coordinate a safe plan of care.
• Apply age-specific standards in medication administration, sedation, or anesthesia.
• Incorporate cultural and developmental needs into the care plan.
• Demonstrate excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Prioritize tasks to maintain patient safety amidst interruptions.
• Document patient care in the medical record.
• Promote Universal Protocol and time-out procedures for every procedure.
• Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesia providers, SPD staff, radiology, and OR team members.
• Participate in performance improvement initiatives and data collection.
