Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center is seeking a PRN OR First Assist to join our Surgical Services team. The role emphasizes aseptic technique, assisting surgeons, and ensuring a safe perioperative environment while supporting standard operating procedures.

• Certificate in Basic Life Support and related surgical credentials within 30 days of employment start date.
• 3 years of experience in a surgical/operative setting or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes aseptic technique to create and maintain a sterile field.
• Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.
• Assists the surgeon and supports unit scope of care in the operating room.
• Contributes to cost containment while delivering quality patient care.
• Participates in on-call assignments and covers staffing as needed.
• Performs other Surgical Services duties to ensure smooth department operation.
• Maintains a safe perioperative environment and acts as a professional OR team member.
• Pursues ongoing professional growth through education and in-services.

Job Summary and Qualifications

• Utilizes principles of aseptic technique in creating and maintaining a sterile field.

• Plans and provides equipment and supplies based on patient and physician needs.

• Demonstrates competency in assisting surgeon as it relate to unit scope if care.

• Promotes cost containment while delivering quality patient care within the operating room.

• Participates in on-call assignments and demonstrates flexibility to cover staffing as needed.

• Demonstrates flexibility to perform other functions within Surgical Services to assist in the smooth operation of the department.

• Provides a safe environment for the surgical patient during their perioperative experience.

• Serves as a professional member of the OR team.

• Pursues own professional growth through continuing education and in services.

• Adheres to hospital policies and procedures; supports the mission of the hospital.

• Exercises sound judgment and decision making skills on behalf of patient, self and peers.

What qualifications you will need:

• Certificate

• Basic Cardiac Life Support, or CPR, or (CSA) Certified Surgical Assistant, or (CSFA) Certified Surgical First Assistant, or (SA) Surgical Assistant must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
