Job summary

Wander Staffing seeks an Optometry Technician for the Department of Optometry at San Antonio Military Medical Center, JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas. The position offers full-time hours and a start date ASAP, with credentialing taking 30–45 days.

Qualifications

• Successfully completed a program for Optometry Technicians.
• BLS certification required.
• Valid Driver’s License.
• Must be able to pass criminal history background check.
• One year of experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform a wide range of optometric technician tasks in eye examinations and procedures.
• Interview patients to gather history on visual complaints and prior eye injuries or diseases.
• Set up equipment to conduct diagnostic tests: lensometry, pupillary testing, PD, color vision, depth perception testing.
• Obtain keratometer readings and perform corneal measurements; ocular photography as needed.
• Order and dispense properly sized spectacles; assist with contact lens insertion/removal.
• Assist in and conduct visual therapy training.

Wander Staffing seeks to add one (1) Optometry Technician to our team ASAP. This position is located in the Department of Optometry, San Antonio Military Medical Center, JBSA Fort Sam Houston, Texas 78234. Duties may include work at either the Jennifer Moreno Clinic (JMC) or the McWethy Troop Medical Clinic (TMC).

Type: Full-time

Start Date: ASAP (The credentialing/privileging process takes between 30-45 days)

Pay

• $28.12/hr
• W2
• PTO for vacations and sick time
• 11 paid federal holidays

Schedule

• M-F: 6:00 AM 3:00 PM
• Up to a 40-hour week, excluding federal holidays and training holidays.
• 60 minutes for an unpaid lunch break.

Duties

• Perform a wide range of optometric technician tasks in eye examinations and corrective procedures in support of the professional Optometry staff
• Interview patients to gather history on visual complaints, past eye injuries, and history of eye diseases
• Sets up equipment to conduct variety of diagnostic tests to include but are not limited to: lensometry; pupillary testing; PD measurements; color vision testing using the PIP color plates and red/green lens; depth perception testing using stereoscopic and stereo fly testing apparatus; screening and threshold visual field testing using the Humphrey Visual Field Tester and the FDT; obtains keratometer readings to include corneal topography; pachymetry; and performs posterior and anterior segment ocular photography using a retinal or anterior segment camera; oarlar coherave tomography, post & anterior.

• Assists in and conducts visual therapy training
