Job summary

Essen Health Care in New York is seeking an Optometry Technician to assist clinicians with eye exams, testing, and patient care across our growing network. You’ll handle patient intake, prepare for exams, operate instruments, and support appointment scheduling in a fast-paced eye care setting.

You’ll work with a multidisciplinary team to ensure accurate testing, patient comfort, and effective communication, with opportunities to contribute to patient education and overall eye-health services.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• COMT or related certification (CPO/COA).
• Completion of an optometry technician training program or relevant on-the-job experience.
• Familiarity with optometric equipment and testing procedures.
• Strong communication and customer service skills.
• Detail-oriented and able to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and data privacy.
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus given Bronx patient demographics.
• Neuro experience.

Responsibilities

• Greet and check-in patients; manage intake smoothly.
• Assist with eye exams; support pre-exam instructions and preparation.
• Operate and maintain optometric instruments (autorefractors, slit lamps, ophthalmoscopes, visual field devices).
• Explain procedures and provide eye-care education to patients.
• Record and update patient data in the EHR; schedule appointments.
• Collaborate with optometrists, ophthalmologists, and staff to ensure quality care.
