Renders comprehensive optometric care to patients of the Los Angeles Christian Health Centers within the limitations of professional licensing, within the scope of the laws of the state of California, and within the rules and regulations of the California Board of Optometry.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND PRIVILEGES include:
- Conduct/document health history relating to chief complaint, pertinent ocular and medical health, family history, medications, and any other data necessary to manage vision and ocular health.
- Performs necessary procedures to address the needs of each patient.
- Adequately document exam findings.
- Proficient in the use and interpretation of standard ophthalmic equipment/procedures, including but not limited to subjective refraction, slit lamp examination, visual field testing, gonioscopy, indirect ophthalmoscopy, optical coherence tomography testing, etc.
- Proficient in the assessment of chronic ocular health issues including diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, and dry eyes.
- Proficient in the assessment of patients with chronic systemic illnesses and infection, including but not limited to diabetes, hypertension, autoimmune disease, herpes, etc.
- Accurately diagnose the patient based upon examination and discuss available treatments.
- Prescribe medicines/treatment within scope of practice as needed to ensure visual needs and ocular health are met.
- Refer patients to ophthalmology as needed.
- Refer patients back to their primary care physician as needed.
- Complete documentation with clear assessment/treatment plan, patient education, and referrals as needed. Lock progress notes in a timely manner, within 7 days.
- Actively communicate with support staff to ensure quality clinical care depending on needs of the patient be that optical or further specialty testing.
- Maintains all licensing requirements.
- Maintain active enrollment in Medicare, Medicaid, Managed Care, and other payor programs as needed for clinical operations, completing credentialing paperwork in a timely manner to remain actively enrolled in these programs.
- Provide compassionate care to patients who are predominantly homeless, may suffer from mental illness, and often lack the resources to care well for themselves.
- Participate in spiritual care for patients and staff, which may include prayer and referral to community resources.
- Meet productivity standards.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:

Bilingual Spanish preferred.
PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- OD degree from an accredited School of Optometry.
- Current California Optometric License and National Provider Identified (NPI).
- Therapeutic Pharmaceutical Agents License (TPA).
- Glaucoma certification.
- DEA License.
- BLS (includes CPR certification)
EDUCATION:
- Two years of college.
- Four-year degree preferred.
- Two to three years of healthcare experience.
