Job Summary
Provides visual examinations, including those conducted to identify the presence of pathology. Conducts detection and differential diagnosis of abnormal visual, ocular and/or systematic conditions. Provides complete high quality optometric/vision care services to members.
Responsibilities
- Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.
- Provides treatment of the visual system within the scope of optometric licensure, including writing prescriptions for ophthalmic spectacles, contact lenses, orthoptics and non-optical aids.
- Performs specialized testing and therapy such as contact lens examinations, visual fields (perimetry), tonometry, orthoptics, low vision evaluation, fluorescein angiography, and ocular photography under ophthalmology direction.
- Maintains compliance with all current organizational, state, and federal regulations pertaining to Optometry.
- Coordinates with Coordinating Optometrists to ensure member satisfaction and promote financial viability of the Vision Services Program.
- Works effectively as a team member with other areas of Vision Services, including Optical Lab and Optical Dispensing.
- Promotes member satisfaction by ensuring high-quality service and care.
- Establishes and maintains courteous and cooperative relations with the public, patients, and personnel.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school or college of Optometry recognized by the California State Board of Optometry.
License, Certification, Registration
- Optometrist License (California)
- National Provider Identifier
Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of and ability to apply principles, theories, practices, and techniques of optometry, including anatomy, physiology, pathology, mechanics of the human eye, visual processes, ocular pharmacology, and therapeutics.
- Ability to work evenings and Saturdays.
- May rotate to other MOBs within the Medical Center Service Area.
- Demonstrates knowledge, skills, abilities, and behaviors necessary to provide culturally sensitive, superior service.
Preferred Qualifications
- Completion of a one-year ACOE-accredited residency program.
