Job summary

Academy Kids Dental, Vision, & Orthodontics in Colorado Springs, CO, is currently seeking an Optometric Assistant to administer visual tests, operate diagnostic equipment, and help with eyewear fittings. This position will report to the Lead Optometric Assistant.

Pay range: $16-$22/hr (AND BONUS OPPORTUNITY). Responsibilities include supporting eye exams, managing patient flow, processing payments, and keeping the practice clean and welcoming for underserved children.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a vision practice is a plus.
• Ability to tech, scribe, and perform optometric tasks.
• Proficiency in EHR systems.
• Ability to train and lead a team of Optometric Assistants.
• Ability to multitask and complete tasks correctly and on time.
• Knowledge of optometric software/databases (e.g., Intero).

Responsibilities

• Understand, monitor, and ensure smooth office processes including coding, materials, insurance benefits, patient collection, and documentation.
• Call patients regarding appointment confirmations, reminders, cancellations, no shows, and recalls.
• Support optometrists during eye exams by preparing patient, performing initial pre-tests, and recording results.
• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test the patient and assist Optometrist in scribing.
• Perform vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, confrontations, pupils, ICT, and administer dilation drops.
• Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescriptions.
• Process patient payments during check-in and check-out.
• Maintain a clean, presentable practice environment including restrooms, lobby, and common areas.
• Participate in other duties that support high-quality, compassionate services for underserved children.

• Accompany patients and parents during exams to pre-test the patient and assist Optometrist in scribing and finding a good fit for glasses
• Perform vision tests such as visual acuity, color vision, stereo, confrontations, pupils, ICT, and administer dilation drops
• Help patients select frames and lenses based on prescriptions
• Process patient payments during check-in and check-out
• Ensure practice is clean and presentable to patients to include cleaning restrooms, patient lobby, mopping, vacuuming, dusting etc.
• Participate in other duties that support the mission of providing high-quality and compassionate dental, vision, and orthodontic services to underserved children

Job Qualifications
