JOB DESCRIPTION: OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1

Job Summary

Optometric technicians are responsible for patient check-in, exam pre-test, exam lane testing, exam post-test, and patient check-out.

General Accountabilities including but not limited to

1. Prepare the day for success by arriving on time and ready to work.
2. Greet patients in a friendly and welcoming manner.
3. Handle patient check-in, fee presentation, pre-testing, entrance testing, checking vision, refraction, and contact lens fitting, followed by check-out.
4. Properly receive and account for patient payments and copays.
5. Answer phones and schedule appointments.
6. Verify insurance eligibility.
7. Place contact lens orders and encourage patients to order through the practice.
8. Conduct contact lens training classes with patients.
9. Assist physicians in performing procedures and tests.
10. Ensure equipment is functioning properly; contact support or management in case of breakdown.
11. Schedule referrals as needed.
12. Complete all duties before clocking out of a shift.
13. Stock and clean exam lanes.
14. Clean general areas, including break rooms, bathrooms, floors, and common areas.
15. Participate in training of new staff members.
16. Engage in staff training programs or continuing education events.
17. Perform additional duties as assigned or changed at any time.
18. Weekend availability is mandatory.

Job Qualifications

Education: High school diploma; college degree preferred.

Experience: Healthcare or customer service experience recommended but not required.
