JOB DESCRIPTION: OPTOMETRIC TECHNICIAN LEVEL 1
Job Summary
Optometric technicians are responsible for patient check-in, exam pre-test, exam lane testing, exam post-test, and patient check-out.
General Accountabilities including but not limited to
- Prepare the day for success by arriving on time and ready to work.
- Greet patients in a friendly and welcoming manner.
- Handle patient check-in, fee presentation, pre-testing, entrance testing, checking vision, refraction, and contact lens fitting, followed by check-out.
- Properly receive and account for patient payments and copays.
- Answer phones and schedule appointments.
- Verify insurance eligibility.
- Place contact lens orders and encourage patients to order through the practice.
- Conduct contact lens training classes with patients.
- Assist physicians in performing procedures and tests.
- Ensure equipment is functioning properly; contact support or management in case of breakdown.
- Schedule referrals as needed.
- Complete all duties before clocking out of a shift.
- Stock and clean exam lanes.
- Clean general areas, including break rooms, bathrooms, floors, and common areas.
- Participate in training of new staff members.
- Engage in staff training programs or continuing education events.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or changed at any time.
- Weekend availability is mandatory.
Job Qualifications
Education: High school diploma; college degree preferred.
Experience: Healthcare or customer service experience recommended but not required.
