Job summary

SEARHC in Alaska is seeking an Optometry Assistant to support eye care services for patients of all ages. The role includes rooming patients, performing optical and point-of-care testing, and assisting with optical orders and imaging.

A four-level career ladder offers progressive responsibilities and certifications. Responsibilities also include accurate documentation, triage and scheduling support, patient communication, and collaboration with referring clinics.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• BLS at hire or within 3 months of hire.
• Certified Paraprofessional Technician (CPOT) or Alaska Dispensing Optician License preferred.

Responsibilities

• Room and screen patients for the providers; perform optical and point-of-care lab testing.
• Accurately document patient information in a timely manner.
• Assist with optical orders: verification, frame selection, measurements, entry, payment, dispensing (glasses/contacts).
• Imaging: acquire ocular images and enter into medical records.
• Administrative support: triage, scheduling, phones, and paperwork for referred/diabetic patients.
• Maintain inventory and assist with invoices and payments.

Pay Range:

Pay Range:$26.06 - $36.08This position supports eye care services to patients of all ages. This position requires/develops skills as an optometry assistant including optical and imaging duties through on-the-job and self-training modules. Customer service, attention to detail, clear communication and timely documentation are essential for this position.

This is a career ladder position with four levels designed to provide progressively more technical and independent work experiences. Promotion between job levels is based on performance, skill acquisition, required certifications, and the demonstrated ability to successfully handle duties requiring progressively more responsibility.
