Job summary

Mach-20 is seeking an early- to mid-career Optoelectronics Engineer to support government programs in the development of high-efficiency, high-power wide bandgap lasers from ultraviolet to near-infrared. The role emphasizes device physics, materials, and architectures to guide research efforts and communicate results.

On-site in Arlington, VA (3-4 days/week as required); U.S. citizenship with an active Secret clearance is required (Top Secret preferred).

Qualifications

• Experience in UV–visible–NIR wide bandgap laser technologies and device physics.
• Knowledge of wide bandgap materials such as GaN, AlGaN, SiC, diamond, or related III-Nitride systems.
• Ability to evaluate technical proposals and provide actionable recommendations to program managers.
• Strong communication skills and ability to prepare briefs, reports, and presentations.
• Proven track record of managing multiple concurrent technical efforts with minimal oversight.
• US citizenship with active Secret clearance (Top Secret preferred).

Responsibilities

• Support program managers with technical expertise in UV–visible–NIR wide bandgap laser technologies.
• Review and assess contractor research and program progress.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, reports, and briefings.
• Coordinate across researchers, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Provide objective technical insight to ensure efficient execution of government portfolios.

Education

MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or related field
