Job summary

ChampionX, now part of SLB, is seeking an Optimization Engineer II for Midland, TX. The role focuses on optimizing production using ESPs, with to-the-field interaction and look-out monitoring to improve uptime. Expect planned weekend or holiday shifts as part of duties.

The position requires a engineering degree and 3 years of ESP optimization or related experience, with strong computer literacy and safety sensitivity. Remote work is not indicated.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical) required.
  • 3 years of ESP optimization and/or application experience in oil and gas preferred.
  • Field operations exposure with Electric Submersible Pumps and/or Multiphase Flow meters advantageous.
  • Strong computer literacy (MS Office) and ability to learn internal systems.

Responsibilities

  • Support sales team and clients to optimize production for downhole and surface operations by preparing artificial lift recommendations.
  • Participate in project activities and liaise between support team and operations.
  • Use LOOKOUT to monitor well performance and address downtime reduction opportunities.
  • Monitor daily production data and ensure data accuracy across systems.
  • Generate effective solutions and make timely, safe, ethical decisions.

What You Will Do:
  • Support the sales team and client end users for the purpose of optimizing production for both downhole and surface operations by preparing artificial lift recommendations.
  • Participate in project activities.
  • Serve as liaison between support team and operations to effectively communicate operational questions & concerns to the Sales Engineers and Application Support Team.
  • Utilize LOOKOUT for monitoring well performance data.
  • Ensure accuracy and address downtime reduction opportunities.
  • Monitor daily production inputs into electronic data capturing software and compare input data with output data for correctness.
  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical.
  • Work is performed in shifts and may require working on a weekend or holiday.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Petroleum, Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical)
  • 3 years of ESP optimization and/or application experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Field operations exposure with Electric Submersible Pumps and/or Multiphase Flow meters
  • High computer application literacy (including Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn internal software systems)
  • Role is deemed safety-sensitive and may be subject to employer or customer drug testing
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Remote operations exposure
  • Programming skills (python, sql, java)
  • Prior experience that required excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Prior experience that demonstrates strong ethics, effective time management, ability to multitask, adaptability, autonomy and self-motivation
  • Working knowledge of other Artificial Lift methods, Completions and Production Fundamentals
