Job summary

SSM Health’s Optical department in Fond du Lac/Waupun area seeks an Optician to fill prescriptions for glasses and, in some locations, contact lenses. You will guide patients in selecting frames and lenses, perform precise measurements, and educate on lens options while delivering a personalized patient experience.

The role requires at least 1 year in optics or customer service, a High School diploma or equivalent, and ABOC certification. Day shifts, on-site work, and a 40-hour week are standard.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED or 10 years of work experience.
• One year optical field or customer service experience.
• American Board of Opticianry Certification (ABOC) is required.

Responsibilities

• Interprets prescriptions and checks history for consistency, contacting doctors as needed.
• Troubleshoots vision issues related to eyeglasses and contact lenses where applicable.
• Assists patients with eyewear selections and proper frame/lens choices.
• Demonstrates features to maximize sales and educate customers.
• Takes optical measurements with high accuracy and explains procedures.
• Fits eyewear and teaches cleaning and storage techniques; suggests relevant products.
