Job summary

Internet2 is seeking a Network Architect, Optical Transport to lead the optical layer of its national research and education network. You will define roadmaps, design capacity, and specify equipment and software to support scalable, secure, and highly available services.

You will collaborate across engineering, operations, software, and security teams, mentor staff, and engage with vendors and standards bodies to advance optical networking for the nation’s research community.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years designing, engineering, or operating coherent DWDM/ROADM transport networks.
• Hands-on with pluggable coherent optics (400ZR/ZR+, OpenZR+, 800ZR) and IP-over-DWDM.
• Experience in 24x7 operations, incident escalation, and root-cause analysis.

Responsibilities

• Develop strategy, roadmap, and architecture for optical transport platform.
• Forecast capacity needs and plan network expansions with fiber assets.
• Produce technical specifications, BOMs, budgets, and project plans.
• Lead optical automation and telemetry platform development and testing.
• Mentor engineers and engage with vendors and standards bodies.
