Meta Reality Labs in Redmond, WA is seeking a Research Scientist with experience in waveguide fabrication and process development to advance optical systems for next‑generation AR devices and computing systems.

You will work at the intersection of nanofabrication, materials science, and optical engineering, translating design requirements into manufacturing processes and contributing to IP and technology transfer to pilot-scale production.

Qualifications

• Experience in waveguide fabrication and process development.
• Familiarity with nanofabrication and optical metrology.
• Ability to collaborate with design and integration teams.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize fabrication techniques for diffraction gratings and light guides.
• Pattern nanostructures using e-beam, stepper, and nanoimprint lithography.
• Develop dry and wet etch processes for waveguide fabrication.
• Deposit dielectric thin films with sputtering, ALD, and e-beam evaporation.
• Perform metrology with AFM, SEM, optical profilometry, spectroscopy.
• Collaborate with designers and materials scientists to translate designs into processes.
• Document SOPs and contribute to IP generation.
• Identify and troubleshoot yield defects and process excursions.
• Support tech transfer from R&D to pilot-scale production.
