Job summary

Anduril Industries is seeking a senior optical engineer to lead the design and lifecycle ownership of advanced near-to-eye display sub-systems. You will drive architecture decisions, formulate performance requirements, and defend the optical error budget across cross-functional teams.

You will collaborate with optical process engineering to align design intent with manufacturing realities and verify with robust V&V. Regular international travel is expected due to global partnerships.

Qualifications

• BS in Engineering with optics concentration or equivalent.
• Experience in design, analysis, alignment, and test of complex optical systems.
• Ownership across the full systems-engineering lifecycle from architecture to verification/validation.
• Proficiency with Zemax or CODE V.
• STOP analysis experience.
• Knowledge of image quality metrics and data analysis.
• Willingness to travel internationally.

Responsibilities

• Lead architecture decisions and optical trades for near-to-eye display sub-systems against defined missions.
• Own the optical system across its full lifecycle—architecture, integration, alignment, test, and V&V.
• Define optical performance requirements and flow them down into specs across mechanical/electrical/thermal domains.
• Build and defend the optical error budget with component/tolerance allocations.
• Partner with optical process engineering to co-develop manufacturing and metrology processes.
• Own the correlation between model and measured hardware to improve predictability across iterations.
• Evaluate prototype and production optical system performance to determine root causes.
