Job summary

fab2 is seeking a highly skilled Optical Systems Engineer to rapidly prototype and advance advanced optical systems to production. You will design, assemble, test, and debug new optical systems and integrate off-the-shelf components like motion stages and metrology equipment on tight timelines.

The role requires a strong portfolio of hands-on hardware work, a track record of fast iteration, and collaboration with suppliers. Austin-based, with a focus on meeting ambitious manufacturing goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Optical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Physics, or Mechanical Engineering with demonstrated optical design work.
• 3+ years of industry experience designing and implementing optical systems.
• Working fluency in optical design and analysis: first-order layout, aberration theory, tolerance analysis and Monte Carlo yield prediction, and stray light analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design, prototype, and develop precision optical and optomechanical components and systems.
• Build, align, and test optical systems on the bench.
• Build new systems and integrate off-the-shelf products, such as motion stages and metrology equipment.
• Perform detailed analysis and simulation to evaluate system designs and meet constraints, including optical performance modeling.
• Work with suppliers to source components and materials, including custom optics fabrication.
• Design lens mounting components and methods.
