AMD is seeking an Optical & SerDes Validation Engineer in its SerDes Technology group in San Jose, CA. You will develop characterization and validation tests for optical links and SerDes interfaces, collaborating with product development, silicon design, DFT, and packaging teams.

The role focuses on high-speed optical links, co-packaged optics, and related electrical SerDes validation. Strong scripting, teamwork, and communication are essential in a fast-paced environment.

  • Collaborate with architects and design engineers to validate optical modules and interfaces.
  • Ensure optical link performance metrics (extinction ratio, TDECQ, eye/BER) meet standards.
  • Develop test automations to improve data analysis efficiency.

THE ROLE:

As an Optical & SerDes Validation Engineer in the SerDes Technology team, you will collaborate with various Product Development Groups, Silicon Design, DFT, Packaging, and interface with key technology partners. This individual serves as a critical technical point of contact to ensure best-practices and new test concepts are architected, developed, and driven throughout the organization. This position focuses primarily on developing characterization and validation test solutions for optical links (co-packaged optics, optical interconnects) with additional exposure to electrical SerDes validation. You will be part of a larger team that defines test solutions from concept, development, to production deployment.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual skilled in optimizing high-speed optical link performance and capable of identifying and addressing issues within a collaborative team environment. Familiarity with electrical SerDes validation is a valuable complement to this role.

KEY RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Validate and characterize AMD's optical SerDes link functionality and performance against design targets, product requirements, datasheet and industry standards
  • Working closely with internal and external teams to troubleshoot optical link issues and determine root cause. Feedback to designers and architects for design improvements
  • Collaborate with architects, design engineers, and application engineers to understand specifications and features to validate and characterize optical modules and interfaces
  • Ensure and enhance optical link performance extinction ratio, TDECQ, eye/BER over optical channels compliant to relevant industry standards
  • Develop test automations with advanced scripting and programming skills to improve test and data analysis efficiency and coverage
REFERRED EXPERIENCE:
  • Hands-on experience with optical lab instruments such as DCA, Tunable Filter, PDFA, OSA etc
  • Experience testing/characterizing optical transceivers, pluggable modules, or co-packaged optics
  • Experience in mixed signal analysis and issue debug across optical domains
  • Experience in scripting test automation, demo GUI, customer supporting scripts
  • Experience with high-speed scopes, BERT, VNA, or other electrical lab equipment is a plus
  • Experience in SerDes electrical compliance for industry standards such as PCIe, Ethernet is a plus
  • Understanding of Signal Integrity and/or Power Integrity is a plus
  • Familiarity with advanced data post-processing techniques is a plus
ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering
