Role Number: 200598682

The Optical Sensing Hardware group designs sensors and illuminators for Apple products, including components of the FaceID system and digital crown in Apple Watch Ultra. This multidisciplinary team is responsible for the architecture, design, and manufacturing development of new sensing solutions.

We are looking for someone knowledgeable in semiconductor lasers who is a proactive problem solver. Experience with photodiodes is a plus. Your role involves specifying, developing, and validating new semiconductor components for sensors.

Description

In this role, you will:

  1. Lead multi-functional teams and collaborate with vendors for prototyping and engineering development.
  2. Design and develop processes for LEDs, photodiodes, and related semiconductor devices for sensing applications.
  3. Lead failure analysis activities and ensure successful delivery of components.
  4. Establish hardware test benches and perform device/system characterization in the optical lab.
  5. Analyze data to improve product design and manufacturability.

Effective communication is essential for collaboration and presenting key developments to management.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong background in device physics and semiconductor physics, with experience in III-V device development (LEDs, Photodiodes).
  • Proven track record in delivering semiconductor device technologies from concept to engineering development; high-volume production experience is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 3 years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Over 5 years of experience in development and manufacturing environments.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Matlab or Python for modeling and data analysis.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Master's or PhD in Physics, Electrical, Materials Science, or related fields.
Pay & Benefits

Base salary ranges from $143,100 to $264,200, depending on skills and experience. Employees can participate in stock programs, receive comprehensive medical and dental coverage, retirement benefits, educational reimbursement, and other perks.
