Optical Sensing HW: Photonic Device Engineer

Description

In this role, we focus on:

  1. Leading multi-functional teams and engage vendors for prototyping and engineering development.
  2. Designing and process development of LED, photodiodes, and related semiconductor devices for sensing applications.
  3. Leading in FA activities (failure mode analysis and root-cause diagnosis) and aim to successful delivery of the component.
  4. Establishing hardware test benches in the optical lab and device/system characterization to implement the design.
  5. Analyzing data to draw conclusions and enhance product design/manufacturability.

In all of this work, you need to be an effective communicator — both to collaborate with multi-functional teams and present to executive management on key developments/issues.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Strong device-physics background, with a solid understanding of semiconductor physics. Knowledge and experience in III-V device development (such as LED, Photodiodes).
  • Demonstrated track record in delivering semiconductor device technologies from early concept scoping to engineering development (high volume production is a plus).
  • BS and a minimum of 3 years relevant proven experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of proven experience in a development and manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Experience in a typical programming language (Matlab, Python, etc.) for modeling, data collection, and analysis.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; solid collaboration skills in a highly multi-functional team environment.
  • MS or PhD in Physics, Electrical, Materials Science, or similar.

At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $143,100 and $264,200, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
