Job summary

Tomorrow.io seeks an Optical Payload Engineer to advance electro‑optical and infrared payloads for our weather observation constellation. You will translate mission goals into instrument requirements and support verification, calibration, and cross‑discipline integration.

Bring hands‑on EO/IR experience, strong imaging fundamentals, and the ability to drive issues with engineers and scientists across teams. This role offers exposure to space hardware lifecycle and performance optimization.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience developing, integrating, testing, or operating EO/IR systems.
  • Strong fundamentals in imaging performance, including detector behavior, radiometry, SNR, and MTF.
  • Experience with imaging sensors, detectors, optical assemblies, or optical payload subsystems.

Responsibilities

  • Support development, integration, verification, and performance assessment of optical payload systems for weather observations.
  • Translate data needs into payload requirements, interfaces, and verification plans with engineers and scientists.
  • Evaluate imaging performance budgets and contribute to calibration and validation activities.
  • Work with cross-functional teams across optics, spacecraft, software, and science to resolve issues.
