Job summary

Meta is seeking an Optical Network Deployment Engineer to design and execute deployments across Meta's vast backbone, edge, and optical networks in the United States. You will plan migrations and collaborate with backbone engineering, capacity planning, and operations to deliver scalable infrastructure.

Responsibilities include creating deployment plans, scripting automated configurations, and coordinating with data centers, vendors, and partner teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or related field, completed before joining Meta.
• 5+ years in optical network engineering, design, or deployment with DWDM/ROADM/OTN and coherent optics (400G/800G).
• Experience with optical line systems and transponder platforms (e.g., Ciena, Nokia, Infinera).
• Ability to architect and deploy complex network solutions across data centers, backbone, edge, and public cloud.
• Field-based work in 3rd party facilities, data centers, ISPs, and exchanges.

Responsibilities

• Partner with backbone, capacity planning, business, and operations to translate requirements into scalable infra solutions.
• Plan, schedule, and execute deployments across the optical backbone including long-haul and subsea segments.
• Make independent technical decisions impacting deployment and operations.
• Provide expertise on deployment/migration across data centers and POPs (space, power, configuration, testing, handoff).
• Contribute to strategic roadmaps and initiatives prioritizing scalable migrations.
• Develop deployment strategies for OTN across data centers, backbone, edge, and cloud platforms.
• Create and analyze network code, automate configurations, and leverage AI to enhance operations.
• Prepare implementation plans (MOP, BOM, EDP) and ensure design package standards.
• Represent in large programs and align cross-team efforts with stakeholders.
• Manage partner engineering relationships and vendor negotiations.
