Job summary

Supermicro is seeking a motivated Optical Manufacturing Engineer to support next-generation optical interconnect solutions for AI and hyperscale datacenters from San Jose, CA. The role emphasizes 800G/1.6T modules and CPO/OCS technologies, requiring 2–4 years hands-on experience in optics and photonics.

You will work with cross-functional teams, support production on the floor, and help scale optical platforms from development to production, with travel as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Optical/Photonics/Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years with Bachelor's or 3+ years with Master's in optical comms or photonics/electronics manufacturing.
• Experience with optical transceivers, fiber optics, and high-speed modules.
• Strong knowledge of silicon photonics, optical packaging, DSP and signal integrity.
• Experience with 100G/400G/800G systems desirable.
• Proficiency in Excel and data analysis; familiarity with statistics helpful.
• Good English communication and ability to work with global teams.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and optimize optical interconnect, transceiver, and photonic manufacturing solutions to improve yield.
• Test, validate, and troubleshoot photoelectric conversion, fiber-optic systems, and signal integrity issues.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, and PM teams and external partners on development and deployment.
• Identify and resolve optical performance, thermal, packaging, and SI challenges.
• Scale next-generation optical platforms from development to production.
• Occasional travel to manufacturing sites for tech transfer and production support.
• Provide day-to-day technical support on production floor for assembly, testing, and QC.
