Job summary

Folio Photonics in Solon, OH is seeking an Optical Engineer I to support optical pickup unit and media development for multilayer discs. You will work on well-defined analysis tasks, build depth quickly, and independently own component-level analyses within the first year.

You will use Zemax, MATLAB, and Python to analyze data, align optical paths, and contribute to a real product development program in an on-site role.

Qualifications

• BS/MS in Optical Engineering or related field; 0–2 years of experience.
• Strong grasp of geometrical and physical optics.
• Experience with Zemax, Code V, or equivalent.
• Proficiency in MATLAB or Python for modeling and data reduction.
• Hands-on optical laboratory experience with bench setups and alignment.

Responsibilities

• Build, run, and extend optical models in Zemax and MATLAB/Python for OPU and media.
• Interpret lab and spinstand data; produce reports for engineering decisions.
• Set up optical test benches; log data systematically and reproducibly.
• Support component characterization and incoming inspection of lenses, coatings, sources, detectors.
• Perform optical tolerance and sensitivity analyses; document results.
