About the Role:

The Optical Assistant supports patients with frame selection, prescription interpretation, facial measurements, and order processing. Responsibilities also include maintaining frame displays and entering patient charges into Revolution Software. Additional duties may be assigned as needed to support department goals and patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage frame inventory, displays, and optical orders based on patient needs and insurance requirements.
  • Assist patients with frame selection, adjustments, measurements, and product education.
  • Coordinate with optical labs to resolve order issues and ensure accurate, timely delivery.
  • Verify prescriptions, lens selections, insurance coverage, and patient out-of-pocket costs.
  • Notify patients when orders are ready and obtain required signatures and documentation.
  • Process patient payments, charges, billing, deposits, and daily reports accurately.
  • Maintain knowledge of optical products, billing procedures, and required continuing education.
  • Provide support throughout the office as needed during staffing shortages or patient overflow.
  • Protect patient privacy and comply with applicable healthcare laws and regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Core Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Two (2) years of related employment experience in an optical setting required.
  • Must maintain current professional licensure in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtain licensure within ninety (90) days of date of hire.
  • Must possess certification of “Mandatory Reporter Training” or obtain certification during the first week of employment.
  • Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.
  • Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.
  • Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership, development, and other events.
  • Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.

  • Proficient with computers, Windows, Microsoft Office, and EHR/patient management systems.
  • Comfortable using standard office equipment.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills.
