Overview


Join an extremely talented and multi-disciplinary team in Keysight Laboratories uniquely chartered with inventing and developing breakthrough electronic and optical measurement technologies. As a member of Keysight Technologies' central research organization, you'll work with a team of experts in fields ranging from photonics to RF and from sensors to communications. You'll see the results of your research in, for example, Keysight's next-generation solutions for 6G, quantum computing, or even future test and measurement solutions defined by you.

Team members are typically assigned to one of a handful of applied research projects in our research portfolio-each aimed at providing breakthrough technologies for Keysight. These projects can be self-initiated by members of our team (perhaps you!) or by request from Keysight's business units. Our role in the central research laboratory is to invent, develop, and validate these breakthrough technologies, and if they prove successful, to assist in their commercialization by Keysight's businesses.

About the Role

Join our talented and multi-disciplinary team at Keysight Laboratories, where we invent and deliver breakthrough electronic and optical measurement technologies. As a member of Keysight's central research organization, you will collaborate with experts in fields ranging from photonics to RF and sensors to communications. Your efforts will enable next-generation test and measurement solutions supporting a variety of industries, for example, 6G, quantum computing, and data center infrastructure.

To foster innovation, this position requires close collaboration with other team members. Consequently, this job must be performed from our offices in Santa Clara, California.


Qualifications


The successful candidate will possess a deep theoretical understanding as well as strong practical skills in the general area of optical measurements and in the focused areas of high-precision interferometry and measurement science. As this is an applied research position, the successful candidate will have demonstrated a willingness to delve deeply into challenging problems and an ability to propose, develop, and implement innovative yet practical solutions. The job will require design and development of a variety of optical devices and systems for a variety of applications.

Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. and 7+ years of experience in the photonics field

  • Deep expertise and experience with interferometry, including strong familiarity with relevant noise sources, interference effects, nonlinearities

  • Strong familiarity with precision measurement theory, techniques, and mathematics

  • Strong familiarity with polarization concepts

  • Familiarity with other remote sensing methodologies, e.g. FMCW Radar, LiDAR, etc

  • Hands on experience assembling and characterizing optical systems in the laboratory

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team

Additional Valuable Skills

  • Photonic integrated circuit device design

  • Photonics packaging technologies

  • Low-noise photonic oscillators

  • Heterogeneous photonic integration

  • System-level design for optoelectronic systems (e.g., transceivers, RF-over-fiber links)

  • Experience with free space optical system design

  • Strong laser technology skill

  • This position requires close collaboration with team members and must be performed from our offices inSanta Clara, California.
