Job summary

Evaporated Coatings, Inc. in Willow Grove, PA seeks an Optical Application Engineer to join a cross-functional team and grow our coatings business.

You will advise customers, craft solutions, and collaborate with manufacturing, quality, engineering and management to win new opportunities. The ideal candidate has a BS/BA in Materials Science, Physics, or an engineering discipline, 3–5 years in technical sales or product management, and strong communication, presentation and analytical skills.

Qualifications

• BS/BA in Materials Science, Physics, or an Engineering discipline.
• 3–5 years in technical sales, business development, or customer-facing program management.
• Preferred experience in optical coatings, glass fabrication, photonics, or similar markets.
• Strong communication, influencing, presentation, training and written and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

• Advise present and potential customers on the best coating(s) to fit their specific applications and requirements including spectral performance, environmental needs, and budgetary considerations.
• Develop accurate quotations including any required thin film design, tooling designs, cost estimates for outside vendor services, inside labor and coating time.
• Compare every incoming order to the matching quotation ensuring agreed upon performance and quality specifications are correct and communicated to production and quality personnel.
• Follow orders through production and provide timely information to the customer about order status and possible schedule changes.
• Respond to customer calls, emails and requests quickly and provide engineering and sales support as needed.
• Maintain current customer base by providing excellent customer service. Manage tracking order status and shipment schedule. Respond to all customer questions and concerns in a timely manner.
• Expand current customer base through trade shows, calls, customer visits, word of mouth, personal contacts or leads generated by advertising or website traffic.

The Position

The Optical Application Engineer is part of a multi-disciplinary team directly involved with maintaining and growing the company’s sales and market position in a rapidly growing optics community. This role includes solving problems for customers and developing unique solutions for their technical challenges. This position works closely with manufacturing, quality, engineering, and management to develop new opportunities and solutions for our customers. Candidates should possess effective communication skills, a love for attacking technical challenges, and be willing to grow their engineering and managerial knowledge for the future.

Qualifications

• BS/BA Materials Science, Physics, or one of the Engineering disciplines
• 3-5 years in technical sales, business development or customer facing program or product management role.
• Preferred industry experience in optical coatings, glass fabrication, photonics, or similar market segments.
• Ability to develop and execute account strategy, sales forecasts, drive pipeline/funnel to achieve growth objectives.
• Learn our solutions, understand customer applications, needs, market trends, and the competing market alternatives.
• Excellent influencing, negotiation, presentation, training and written and oral communication skills
• Proficiency in computer, software, data analysis, documentation skills: Salesforce, Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, video conferencing, and comfort utilizing ERP systems
• Able to travel to support customer and factory visits, tradeshows or other sales as needed.
