Job summary

ENGIE North America is seeking an Operations & Maintenance Technician 2 to operate and maintain campus utility networks, including centralized steam, hot water, and chilled water systems. The role emphasizes safe, continuous production and district delivery of thermal energy and potable water across campus facilities.

You will monitor BAS data, perform preventive maintenance, and support the development of maintenance programs and logs, working daily at the campus sites with a focus on safety

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED with 2 years' experience in steam engineering or utility maintenance.
• Experience with building automation and safety practices is required.
• Ability to read mechanical/electrical prints and process drawings.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and optimize decentralized nodal production plants and satellite plants.
• Track pressures, temperatures, and flows with BAS; identify thermal anomalies.
• Service steam traps, PRVs, expansion joints, and large valves in tunnels and vaults.
• Maintain VFD pumps, hydronic strainers, and heat exchangers in mechanical rooms.
• Perform Lockout/Tagout and follow OSHA/safety protocols.
• Troubleshoot faults and perform preventive maintenance; review manuals.
• Support development of campus maintenance programs and logs.

What You Can Expect

As our Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Technician 2, you are responsible for operating and maintaining the university's centralized utility distribution networks and decentralized nodal production plants. This infrastructure includes high-pressure steam, hot water, chilled water, and domestic water systems. The role ensures the safe, continuous production and district delivery of thermal energy and potable water across campus academic, residential, and research buildings. This positions reports t o the Distribution Supervisor. This newly created position is responsible for assisting in the development of the cross-campus maintenance program (Maximo). You will work within the scope of all Engie mechanical rooms across campus. Additionally, this role will assist in the development of the operational oversight documents (Logs, WOs, PMs, round sheets related to the BESO and temporary utilities on campus.

You will:

• Operate, monitor, and optimize decentralized, nodal production plants (including satellite chiller plants, boiler rooms, and pump stations). Adjust equipment sequencing to match dynamic campus thermal loads
• Track system pressures, temperatures, and flows using the campus Building Automation System (BAS). Identify thermal anomalies across district lines
• Service steam traps, pressure-reducing valves (PRVs), expansion joints, and large-diameter valves in utility tunnels and vaults
• Maintain variable frequency drive (VFD) pumps, hydronic strainers, and heat exchangers inside building mechanical rooms
• Repair domestic water mains, backflow preventers, and booster pumps. Maintain campus water quality and strict sanitation standards
• Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
• Follow OSHA, EPA, and university safety protocols
• Sample and treat closed loops to prevent corrosion, scale, and biological growth, protecting critical university laboratory and mechanical assets
• Responsible for troubleshooting and diagnosing faults to replace and repair non-operational parts.
• Performs preventive maintenance to ensure equipment operates at optimum performance.
• Reviews operational manuals, technical manuals, and system procedures.
• Other duties as assigned by the Distribution Supervisor or Operations and Maintenance Manager

What You'll Bring

• Minimum High school diploma or GED; with a minimum 2 years experience in trade practices of steam engineering, utility distribution, central plant, or infrastructure maintenance
• This role requires attendance at a worksiteon a daily basis;
• Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license/clean driving record; will drive company vehicle
• Must be willing and able to comply with all ENGIE ethics and safety policies
• Building automation controls experience
• Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical prints
• Ability to read Process and Identification drawings
• Ability to meet highest attendance requirements
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally
• Ability to lift light to medium weight objects. Could involve some lifting <50lbs
• Ability to performed work from ladders or scaffolds, next to hot steam driven equipment, and near rotating equipment.
• Ability to push and pull objects
• Ability to perform work in an abnormal sitting or standing position
• Ability to perform work inside confined spaces, manholes and crawl spaces
• Willingness to develop technical proficiency in some software applications

Compensation

Hourly Range: $40.09 to $53.42 USD hourly

This represents the average expected pay range for a qualified candidate.

ENGIE complies with all federal, state, and local minimum wage laws. Actual salary offered may vary depending on geography, experience, education, internal pay alignment, or other bona fide factors.

In addition to base pay, this position is eligible for a competitive bonus / incentive plan.
