Job summary

Yamato Transport USA, Inc. is hiring a Customs Entry Writer to prepare, review, and submit accurate customs entries for imports in line with CBP, PGA, and company standards. You will enable timely cargo release across air, ocean, and truck modes.

The role requires 1–3+ years in U.S. import customs brokerage or logistics, HTS familiarity, and strong documentation skills. Excellent communication with clients and agencies is essential, with opportunities to grow in a global logistics environment.

Qualifications

  • 1–3+ years of experience in U.S. import customs brokerage or logistics operations.
  • Strong knowledge of HTS classification, CBP regulations, and PGA requirements.
  • Ability to read and interpret commercial invoices, shipping documents, and regulatory notices.
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and time‑sensitive decision‑making.
  • Strong communication skills with clients, carriers, and government agencies.
  • Analytical thinking to solve problems.
  • Effectively communicate skills, both verbally and in writing
  • A desire to learn and grow.
  • Knowledge of International freight forwarding (preferred)
  • Customs Broker License preferred but not required (preferred)
  • Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with CargoWise is a plus (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and coordinate with overseas offices or partners for shipment pre-alert.
  • Review ISF information and submit filing for bill matches.
  • Classify commodities using HTSUS, ensuring correct duty rates, OGA flags, and admissibility requirements.
  • Validate commercial documents (invoice, packing list, AWB/BL, arrival notice, permits).
  • Ensure timely Customs release, arrange delivery and billing.
  • Confirm importer data, bond sufficiency, POA validity, and CBP compliance.
  • Handle non-routed shipments from start to finish with forwarder pre-alert.
  • Pay freight, handling and terminal charges as necessary.

Job Description

The Customs Entry Writer is responsible for preparing, reviewing, and submitting accurate customs entries for import shipments in compliance with U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) regulations, Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements, and company standards. This role ensures timely cargo release, proper duty/tax assessment, and complete documentation flow across air, ocean, and truck import operations.
