An established industry player is seeking a dedicated Ophthalmic Medical Assistant to support physicians in examinations and procedures. Assists physicians with examinations, procedures, diagnostic studies, treatments, and dressings.
Compiles preliminary histories on new patients and records new problems, including all current medications, on return patients using EMR charting.
Scribes in electronic medical records as dictated by the physician.
Performs ophthalmic testing such as visual acuity, intraocular pressures, visual field testing, air tension testing, color vision, and other specialized assessments.
Administers dilating agents for ophthalmic fundus examinations upon successful completion of ophthalmic pharmacology training.
Escorts patients to waiting areas and assists with minor clinic surgeries, special procedures, and preoperative preparations.
Provides postoperative instructions when indicated and assists with laser treatments, ultrasound testing, and cryopexy surgeries.
Performs ultrasound measurements for intraocular lenses, keratometry, lensometry, and other diagnostic calculations.
Prepares cultures and pathology specimens for laboratory analysis and transports them appropriately.
Records vital signs, cleans and prepares instruments, and ensures examination rooms are clean, organized, and stocked.
Assists with emergency patient admissions and ensures proper patient transportation to hospital units.
Completes billing for appliances, dressings, medications, and procedures, and manages inventory orders for pharmaceuticals and supplies.
Work is typically performed in a clinical environment, adhering to all organizational policies and procedures. Additional competencies outlined in department-specific orientations are considered essential.
Hours: 6:30 am - 3:00 pm, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm, 7:30 am - 4:00 pm, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm
