Summary:

The Ophthalmic Technician provides direct patient care, demonstrating competencies in quality improvement, person and family-centered care, professionalism, safety, teamwork, and technology. Works closely with healthcare team to coordinate care, develops knowledge and skills for individualized care, and complies with all regulations. Assists ophthalmologists with patient care, completes patient histories, and must become certified within 12 months of hire.

Responsibilities:
  • Complete medical and ocular history on patients.
  • Record chief complaints and allergies.
  • Conduct health screenings including falls, abuse, depression.
  • Document medications.
  • Handle surgical, procedure, and insurance forms as required.
  • Schedule MRIs and retrieve reports if applicable.
  • Coordinate with pharmacies for prescriptions.
  • Follow organizational policies and support department duties.
Education and Experience:
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
Credentials:
  • CPR (Preferred).
  • Certified Ophthalmic Assistant/Technician/Medical Technologist (Preferred).
