Job summary

Veterans Health Administration, part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, seeks a Staff Surgeon in Ophthalmology at the VA Palo Alto Health Care System. The physician will provide comprehensive ophthalmic care, supervise trainees, and participate in rounds and educational activities within the Ophthalmology Service.

The role involves evaluating patients in multiple settings, performing procedures, and contributing to safety, quality, and policy development as directed by the Section Chief.

Qualifications

• Must hold MD or DO from an approved medical school.
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in a US state or DC.
• Residency training in an accredited core specialty leading to board eligibility.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate and manage ophthalmology patients in clinic, urgent care, ER, ICU, OR, and inpatient settings.
• Supervise trainees including medical students, residents, and fellows.
• Provide 24/7 on-call coverage as required by Ophthalmology service.
• Perform ophthalmology procedures including intravitreal injections and laser treatments.
• Develop policies and procedures; participate in rounds, teaching conferences, and quality initiatives.
