DaMar Staffing in Mount Pleasant, SC is seeking a Medical Biller & Coder for a full-time, in-person role in a fast-paced ophthalmology retina practice. You will ensure accurate coding, timely claims submission, and effective insurance follow-up to support the financial health of the clinic.

Ideal candidates have ophthalmology billing experience, CPT/ICD-10 knowledge, and familiarity with Athena Practice Management.

Qualifications

• 1+ year ophthalmology or medical billing experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10 and insurance billing procedures
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payers
• Experience using Athena Practice Management System preferred
• Excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities

• Understand insurance policy guidelines including COB, referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance portals
• Submit electronic and paper claims and follow up on denied, incorrect, or unpaid claims
• Accurate charge entry and data entry using ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines
• Maintain compliance with current coding initiatives and payer policies
• Monitor aging reports and assist in creating or using daily, weekly, monthly and annual reports
• Answer billing questions from patients, team members, and insurance companies

Our growing ophthalmology retina practice in Mount Pleasant, SC is seeking an energetic, detail-oriented Medical Biller & Coder to join our team. This role is ideal for someone with ophthalmology or optometric billing experience who enjoys working in a fast-paced healthcare environment and takes pride in accuracy and organization.

You will play an important role in the financial health of the practice by ensuring accurate coding, timely claims submission, and effective insurance follow-up. This position offers stable hours, a supportive team environment, and the opportunity to expand your skills in a physician-led specialty practice.

Experience with Athena Practice Management System is preferred.

Responsibilities

Insurance & Payer Knowledge

• Understand insurance policy guidelines including COB, referrals, prior authorizations, and insurance portals
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payer billing rules and regulations
• Communicate with insurance companies to resolve claim issues

Charge Entry & Coding

• Accurate charge entry and data entry
• Apply appropriate ICD-10 and CPT coding guidelines
• Maintain compliance with current coding initiatives and payer policies

Claims Processing

• Submit electronic and paper claims
• Review and follow up on denied, incorrect, or unpaid claims
• Submit corrected claims, reconsiderations, and appeals

Accounts & Reporting

• Work insurance and patient delinquent accounts
• Monitor aging reports
• Assist in creating or using daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports

Customer Service & Team Support

• Answer billing questions from patients, team members, and insurance companies
• Maintain professional communication with patients and staff
• Assist with front desk responsibilities or workflow support when needed

Qualifications

• 1+ year ophthalmology or medical billing experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of CPT, ICD-10, and insurance billing procedures
• Familiarity with Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial payers
• Experience using Athena Practice Management System preferred
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Reliable transportation
• Flexible team player willing to assist where needed

Compensation

• $20–$25/hour depending on experience
