Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Ophthalmology Technician in Orlando supports Ophthalmologists with diagnosis, treatment, prevention, follow-up care, and patient counseling.

The role involves calibration of instruments, history taking, visual acuity testing, tonometry, imaging, and assisting with procedures in a busy VA ophthalmology clinic. Qualified candidates have COA or equivalent credentials, and meet the education/experience requirements.

Qualifications

  • COA certification is required for the Health Technician (Ophthalmology).
  • Two years above high school with related health care education OR an associate's degree qualifies.
  • Experience in health care field is acceptable in lieu of formal education under listed options.

Responsibilities

  • Perform diagnostic procedures and assist in clinic-based ophthalmology surgeries.
  • Calibrate and check ophthalmology screening instruments.
  • Take patient history including chief complaint and medications.
  • Test visual acuity with/without correction and pupil evaluation.
  • Instill eye medications and measure intraocular pressure.
  • Perform OCT, photography, and related imaging.
  • Screen for urgent ocular conditions and triage as needed.
