Job summary

Avera Eye Care Marshall seeks a PRN ophthalmic assistant to join a multidisciplinary team focused on patient-centered care. You will greet patients, take medical histories, and assist with examinations and procedures in a fast-paced clinic.

The role requires strong communication, accurate testing, and proficiency with the EHR system. A High School diploma and IJCAHPO certifications are preferred. Day shifts are available to support clinic needs.

Qualifications

• High School or GED Equivalent.
• IJCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Assistant preferred.
• IJCAHPO Certified Ophthalmic Technician preferred.
• IJCAHPO COMT preferred.
• Experience in Medical Office setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients in person or by phone and obtain initial history.
• Perform opening examination tests and prepare equipment for physician.
• Assist with surgical and non-surgical ophthalmic procedures.
• Proficiently use the electronic health record for ophthalmic evaluations.
• Coordinate clinic inventory and assist with scheduling and referrals.
• Answer phones and process appointments and authorizations.

Pay Range: The pay range for this position is listed below. Actual pay rate dependent upon experience. $19.50 - $25.50

A Brief Overview

Accountable for greeting patients either in person or over the telephone. Performs the initial evaluation by obtaining medical history, patient concerns, performs examination tests and prepares equipment for physician as needed. Assists with surgical procedures, administers topical medications or diagnostic drugs prescribed by the physician.

What you will do

• Ensures examination rooms are properly stocked, cleaned and that equipment is ready and in working order for daily use.


• Rooms and prepares patient, obtaining information: ophthalmic, medical, family and social history and patient concerns.


• Performs opening examination tests and prepares equipment for physician following established policies, procedures and guidelines.


• Is proficient in the electronic health record for all aspects of the ophalmic evaluation.


• Assists physician with office surgical and non-surgical procedures and arranging required instruments for procedures prior to scheduled appointment.


• Assists with answering phones, making appointments, filing, prior authorizations, etc.


• Coordinates and manages clinic inventory.


• Contacts pharmacy when appropriate for refills following established policies, procedures, and guidelines.

Required Education, License/Certification, or Work Experience:

• Certified Ophthalmic Assistant - International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)


• Certified Ophthalmic Technician - International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)


• Certified Ophthalmic Medical Technologist (COMT) - International Joint Commission on Allied Health Personnel in Ophthalmology (IJCAHPO)


• Experience in Medical Office setting
