Job summary

SEARHC in Juneau, Alaska, seeks an experienced Ophthalmologist to deliver comprehensive medical and surgical eye care in outpatient and surgical settings, including consultations for other SEARHC providers.

The role involves evaluations of glaucoma, retinal and corneal diseases, collaboration with optometrists and staff, participation in quality initiatives, and annual medical staff education; travel to field clinics as needed.

Qualifications

• Completion of a bachelor’s degree, medical school degree, and an accredited ophthalmology residency.
• Active Alaska medical license.
• Board Certified or Eligible.
• BLS certification.
• At least 2 years of ophthalmology clinical and surgical experience.
• Knowledge of regulatory guidelines and standards of care for ophthalmology.

Responsibilities

• Provides comprehensive ophthalmology medical and surgical services to SEARHC patients, including evaluations, clinical analysis, diagnosis, surgery, and treatment.
• Evaluates and treats patients with glaucoma, retinal or corneal conditions, macular degeneration, oculoplastic and autoimmune pathologies.
• Performs ophthalmology surgeries, such as cataract and retinal procedures, within local facility capabilities.
• Collaborates with optometrists, ophthalmic technicians and other healthcare professionals to ensure a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
• Participates in quality assessment and quality improvement initiatives, including peer review where appropriate.
• Provides educational programs to the SEARHC medical staff on at least an annual basis.
• Guides policy, protocol, and process development; builds and promotes the ophthalmology service line.
